Following last year’s centenary celebrations of the Lutyens building, renovations at JAG are still continuing unabated. The City of Johannesburg (COJ) has allocated an amount of R24,000,000 for the restoration of the buildings, which is supposed to take place under heritage supervision until 2017. This amount however is not sufficient and fundraising is ongoing in order to complete refurbishments. Due to the lack of appropriate skills of some of the contractors, not all aspects of the renovation process have run so smoothly. JAG is an important heritage resource for the city, and indeed the region, and therefore the Friends of JAG is working hard to remedy the situation by ensuring that appropriate heritage renovation procedures be adhered to.
Fortunately we can also rely on the benevolent largesse of our corporate Friends of JAG to help improve our facilities. A recent collaboration lead to an extensive upgrade of the central courtyard.
The Friends of JAG offer our corporate members, patrons and benefactors the exclusive opportunity to host VIP guests or celebrate special occasions in this exquisite venue, along with an expert team of preferred suppliers. JAG is not a convention centre or a venue for hire. We work with the corporate Friends of JAG on special events that benefit the sustainable audience development goals, urban legacy and brand positioning of the gallery.
